I've spent some time online looking into the price of land around here. The thought process was to get a modular home and stick it on a spot of land. I've been told that these homes can be easily customized therefore maybe making it more accessible for Tom.
Of course, I have no idea what I'm talking about. I noticed about 3/4 of the way through looking at land online that it would be best if all the hook-ups (electricity, sewer, water, etc.) were already to the plot. Duh, Captain Obvious.
Anywhoooo - I would think a modular home would be cheaper than buying an already exsisting home and remodeling it to suite our needs. And, our budget is non-exsistant, so the more we can get for our money the better off we are. Thank goodness for First Time Home Buyers deals and No Down Payment stuffs. Yeah, cuz otherwise, we'd be renting FOREVER.
It sure would be nice to have a home more accessible for Tom that wouldn't cost us a million dollars. I wonder if there is government assistance for this type of thing. I have no idea how to look into something like that... Jeeves doesn't know either. What good is he, anyhow?
Some of these floor plans are great and look very wheelchair friendly. Like this one and this one. Of course, they don't list their prices... go figure. The ones I'm looking at aren't huge (there are some amazingly large modular homes out there). But, even the smaller ones look dreamy.
Man, I want a house. This one bedroom apartment is wonderful, but I'm ready to have our own space... Ah, to not be piled on top of each other, room for storage... what a nice concept.

Hi GoodSheila,
I'm also interesting in purchasing some land in my state (Missouri). I'm in the same boat you are.. hardly any savings, low budget, etc.
I heard about geodesic dome homes on the Coast to Coast AM radio show one night. I did some browsing on their website domehome.com and they look pretty nice. You can build them yourself or they can build it for you. I believe they start at $35,000 for their smallest dome, which is pretty affordable. Where I live you can get this dome home, electricity, etc for under $100k.
I browsed those modular homes you posted and they're real nice, do you know how much they cost? My goal was to get a domehome or something equivalent, then after 5-10 years or whenever I have money, build a nicer home.. then you have a nice guest home!
Good luck with the property shopping and best of luck to you and Tom!
Best Regards,
