It's a nail biter!

(minor edit to change post date, only. stupid drafts.)

I bite my nails.

I think I always have.

Since I've gotten older, I can control the habit to a degree. If I find that I've gone a couple days without nibbling, I can feel them getting longer. Then, I'm on a mission to not bite them and see how long I can get them.

I've been fairly successful in the recent past. The length had gotten over the tips of my fingers to the point where I could actually declare to others that I had fingernails! It was actually quite exciting.

But, as soon as one breaks, I bite them all off again. Then I'm back to square one.

When I was younger, though, biting my fingernails led to dry and cracked fingers.

It was horrible, the depth of the cracks and the pain of not being able to use my fingertips.

As a grade school activity, the local police came and fingerprinted all the children for the parents. You know, in case one of us got kidnapped, they could identify us by our fingerprints. At the time, though, I didn't understand the idea behind the fingerprinting - thank goodness - otherwise I would of had nightmares of being kidnapped.

Anyway. Due to my long running fingernail biting habit, I had damaged my fingerprints so severely that the officers could not get a print. They declared me printless and told my mother.

It was a cool unique trait. I used to tell people I could rob a bank and not get caught!

As I've gotten older, my fingerprints have improved... I could be fingerprinted if required. But, they aren't nearly as defined as most peoples.

Interesting, huh?

I don't bite my nails. I don't rob banks either. But, I have thought about it. I'm glad I read this first.

Sorry about this...but eww! Your fingers are horrid carriers of germs! Stop that RIGHT NOW, YOUNG LADY! LOL

And in school, my mother refused to let them fingerprint me. Yeah. She doesn't wear an aluminum foil hat yet, but give her a couple of years. LOL

I have arch fingerprints. They say only 5% of the population have them. That really narrows down the suspect list when trying to rob a bank.
