So, Tom's van is in the garage. I just got off the phone with them to see when we could pick it up, thinking that whatever the problem was would of been an easy fix.
No, it turns out that there's a list of stuff that needs to be replaced on the van. Roters, calipers, hoses, pads, all sorts of stuff that makes my head spin. I know there's more than that, but it makes no difference to me. All I hear is $, $, $ and $.
These guys at this garage are friends of my dads. I trust them, and know they wouldn't misguide me. I'm fairly sure they might already be cutting me a deal, anyhow.
But, we're looking at a $600 bill.
We don't have $600 laying around.
Well, we have $500... but that was what was raised for us for Tom's bathroom.
It breaks my heart that we might have to use that money to fix Tom's van. But, we'd be worse off without Tom's wheelchair accessible van than without a wheelchair accessible bathroom.
I just don't see any way to win in this situation.

I love you! We will make it! I am so sorry every one,I apoligize! I promise to put it all back as soon as I can. Wheelchair rides anyone? ;)
by the way 'FIRST'
I'm just glad that it was there (the money). I hope they can fix you up and get those wheels moving...
that sucks totally. but at least you have some $$ to get the van moving again.
I'm pretty sure that anyone that donated to the cause was more of a donation to the "Tom and Sheila" cause than the "must fix the bathroom only" cause. I still think that you and Tom should look at other resources for the bathroom thing. There just has to be another way. People get help with house projects all the time...you can't be so bad that you aren't worth it. Okay well YOU could be...but not Tom. :o)
Oh goodness...that does suck that you have to use it...but at least you had it, right? It is better to be able to be mobile than to have a super-cool wheel-in shower, right? It'll come...this is just a minor setback.
Isn't there a program out there to help retrofit houses and stuff for wheelchairs?
Thanks everyone for making me feel better about using the donated money to fix the van.
Not A Granny has emailed me a couple sites to check into! Hopefully one of them will pan out.
I'm clueless when it comes to figuring out how to get this kind of stuff...
Hope you get all the wheels rolling soon! Sounds frustrating....
Girl, that money was there to help you, regardless of what kind of help it was. I'm glad you had it to get the van fixed. You deserve a big ol' break :)
